Today, I woke up feeling like a culinary ninja and decided to conquer the art of poaching eggs. The truth is, I’ve been wanting to try this since October 30th, 2010, or the day I watched the movie “Julie & Julia” For some good reason, I thought it was an almost impossible task. And… it was. Well, not really. After some trial and error, I finally figured out the perfect poached egg technique. And it only took an hour of Pinterest and YouTube research!
After a bit of experimentation, I discovered the secrets to the perfect poached egg, and I’m here to share them with you.
Here’s what you’ll need:
🥚 Fresh eggs
🍶 Water
🥄 Vinegar
👨🍳 Confidence (optional but highly recommended)
Now, let’s get cracking (literally)!
1️⃣ Fill a medium saucepan with 4 cups of water (the water level should be about 1.5 inches high).
2️⃣ Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to the water. Trust me, this is the magic ingredient that helps keep the egg together.
3️⃣ Bring the water to a boil. You want the water to be hot, but not boiling so fiercely that it sends your egg flying across the kitchen (true story 🤦♂️).
4️⃣ Crack the egg into a small colander, discarding the dripped egg whites. This step is crucial, unless you want a poached egg with a side of scrambled egg whites 🤢.
5️⃣ Use a spoon to create a gentle whirlpool in the boiling water. Think of it as a tiny hot tub for your egg 🛀.
6️⃣ Lower the colander with the egg into the center of the whirlpool and let it slide into the water. If you’re feeling fancy, you can even say “wheeeeee” as it goes in 🙃.
7️⃣ Cook the egg for about 3 minutes or until the white is set but the yolk is still runny. This is the key to a perfect poached egg – runny yolk for the win! 🤤
8️⃣ Use a slotted spoon to remove the egg from the water and transfer it to a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture.
9️⃣ Repeat the process with any additional eggs you want to poach. And voila! You’re now a poaching pro 🎉.
So go ahead, impress your friends and family with your egg-poaching prowess. And remember, if at first you don’t succeed, just keep cracking (and trying again) 😉.
